Because I haven't survived this long in the kind of world I came from without being able to read people quickly.
My world is not kind, and exploits any kind of vulnerability it can find, so what exactly do you think someone like me has to do, being a blind girl who doesn't break 1.5 meters?
[It takes Tim a few days after coming back to really let the events of the trip sink in. Of all the horrors he saw and even worse; the ones he did.
He spends a lot of time trying to think of what he should say or even if he has the right to say it. In the end he leaves a text so that she can have the choice to delete it without reading or if she wishes to respond or not.]
I'm sorry for my actions against you. I don't know what got into my head while out at sea, but regardless I hurt you in the worst possible way. I am so sorry. If there is anything I can do for you? Just ask, but you don't need to respond either.
[She does think about deleting it. She knows no one was in their right minds, but he was...kind of more not in his right mind than most people who got their hands on her, it seemed like. She's been flippant and cavalier in tone with most of her crewmates, but she doesn't think she can do that with this one. The kinder interpretation is to think that the mist just affected everyone to different degrees. But Orla's not a kind woman.]
[In the end, it's her own desire for power and control that gets her to respond. She has the power to give or withhold some small measure of comfort. So she makes a choice.]
None of us were in our right minds. We all did crazy shit.
The ideal seems to be all subs being sexually available to all doms, at all times. If they care about healthy relationships, they have a VERY different standard.
I don't know, it seems like their leaks are actually pretty limited. If they wanted to leak, like, some of the shit I've used my reader for that could get wild. Pictures I didn't take is pretty specific
I do feel like the system knows exactly what shouldn't get shared. Maybe it's an incentive to take more random pictures so there's more potential for silly things to end up going out.
What reader do you mean? Is that something the devices do? I'm still learning all the features.
[This is pretty much the one subject that will warm her up a little to talk about.]
I do. I mean, I know everyone saw some shit on the boat but that was obviously, you know, boat shit.
[Everyone saw her get dragged away from the dinner table and into the kitchen by her hair, at Bree's hand. Not that getting fucked with a knife handle in the kitchen wasn't kind of incredibly hot.]
She's been with me...six years now, I guess? Married for almost three.
Basically, yeah. There's two types of navigation. One of them you don't need instruments for, it's instinctive, and one of them the computer does for you.
[ He considers that, which is a bit easier to grasp than most of what they've been discussing. A bit less so in context, he can't quite fathom navigating a vessel "instinctively," but it seems more common with modern transportation-- automobiles and such, whereas he'd liken it more to walking from his flat to the grocery, something he'd obviously have no need to use a map or compass for.
And granted, he'd most recently been in the Discovery Service, which specifically involves traveling to and through that which has been previously uncharted. Irving doesn't think modern technology would have made any difference in their own voyage, here, but it's still interesting to hear, and useful even, maybe, to know, if not specifically for travel reasons, then maybe others. ]
How does it... the computer, is it like a compass? Or a chronograph? What kind of guidance does it offer you exactly?
Definitely. If you don't understand how the tech works and how the physics works you can literally tear your ship in half. It's no joke. But I get the sense it's like the same level of life skill as driving a 21c car.

I'm [...] not usually so forward with someone I barely know.
And you were hurt--I am so bloody sorry.
[She'll likely forever feel awful for not seeing to Orla's injury, but fuck all there was so little thinking beyond just that: Fuck.]
I don't know if it helps, but you were so amazing then.
